Some claim the Highgate Vampire was in fact A mothman, while others believe the creature was something else entirely.
Take a look at the legend below and draw your own conclusions:

Highgate Cemetery was constructed in 1839 and it was a very fashionable burial place for Victorians. By the 1960′s Highgate Cemetery had fallen into neglect and decay. Stories started circulating that the cemetery was haunted and newspapers started reporting England’s first Vampire in over a hundred years.

In 1963 two 16 year old convent girls were walking home at night after having visited friends in Highgate Village. Their return journey took them down Swain’s Lane past the cemetery. They could not believe their eyes as they passed the graveyard’s north gate at the top of the lane, for in front of them, bodies appeared to be emerging from their tombs.

Another incident, some weeks later, involved a couple who were also walking down Swains lane. The lady recorded glimpsing something hideous hovering behind the gate’s iron railings. Her fiance also saw it, and both stood frozen staring at it for what seemed like several minutes. Its face bore an expression of absolute horror.

Soon others sighted the same phantom as it hovered along the path behind the gate where gravestones are visible either side until consumed in darkness. Some who actually witnessed the spectral figure wrote to their local newspaper to share their experience. Discoveries were made of animal carcasses drained of blood. Very soon it was being described as a vampire.

In 1971 several years after the many publicised vampire sightings, a young girl claims she was actually attacked by the vampire in the lane outside the cemetery. She was returning home in the early hours of the morning when she was suddenly thrown to the ground with tremendous force by a “tall black figure with a deathly white face. At that moment a car stopped to help her and the vampire “vanished” in the glare of the headlamps.

She was taken to the police station in a state of shock, luckily only suffering abrasions to her arms and legs. The police immediately made a thorough search of the area, but could offer no explanation to the incident. More mysterious still was the fact that where the vampire vanished, the road was lined by 12ft walls.

Another interesting case is that of the man who was hypnotised by something in the cemetery. He had gone into the cemetery one evening to look around, and as the light began to rapidly fade he decided to leave, but became hopelessly lost. Not being a superstitious person he walked calmly around looking for the gate when suddenly he became aware of something behind him. Swinging around he became “hypnotised with fear” at the tall dark figure of the vampire confronted him. So great was the intensity of his fear that he stood motionless for several minutes after the vampire vanished. He later recalled that it was almost as if he had been paralysed with fear by some force.

During August of 2007 in Ontario, Canada, my nephews and I where taking a walk behind the hill across the street. We started to smell a strong smell that smelled almost like something had died. My nephews kept complaining about the smell. We had never experienced the smell before or when we had just began walking.

Then we heard a loud rustling sound in the tall grasses behind us. It had scared me, but what scared me even more was the large, bright red eyes that had been staring at me and what I was now staring face-to-face with. The creature was about seven feet tall, black shiny skin that looked like a bat’s, long arms that reached almost to the ground, and a wingspan of about eight feet wide. I yelled for my nephews to run, but they seemed to be in some sort of trance and would not move. It let out a loud blood-curdling screech. That made my nephew cry. I pushed them foreword to start running and I ran after them. My nephew tripped and hurt his leg, so I had to carry him.

When we got home, my mother asked me why we had been back so early. After I had explained what had happened, she called the police. The police did not believe us and decided to ignore our call. After things had died down a little that night, I heard a scratching sound on the window in the living room. I went to see what it was and it was the tall, dark creature peering in my living room window. I yelled for it to leave, but it just stood there. I went into the kitchen to get a knife to try to threaten it away, but then I heard that unforgettable screech and the sound of large flapping wings. I had thought the creature was mocking of us and how I wanted it to leave.

Two weeks after the occurrence, our house had burned down. Perhaps it was an angel — or Mothman — trying to give us warning of what was going to happen to us.

According to Ing. Francisco Prieto Torres, residents of La Junta, Guerrero (Chihuahua) had reported the sighting of a “Mothman” on April 10, 2009

They added : He was a very tall entity, standing some 2 meters tall, with two pairs of wings (one pair larger than the other). His face was covered in fur and had red, bloodshot eyes.

The main witness is a young student at Universidad Regional del Norte, whose name is being kept confidential, and who claims that the strange humanoid chased him for 15 minutes on the evening of March 6.

The witness was driving a Liberty back to his home after his studies, when he saw a bulk on the roadway asphalt resembling a hunched-over man who seemed to be covered in a blanket. The figure suddenly stood up, taking two leaps forward and displaying a set of wings similar to those of a bat. The young man floored the accelerator in an attempt to flee, but the strange creature flew with great power, keeping abreast of the vehicle and looking in through the passenger window.

Ing. Francisco Prieto has already located the place where the young man’s father works and he wishes to interview him himself. If this is achieved, he will be forwarding the materials to me to make the entire ordeal known. It should be added that the family is known for being respectable and are held in high esteem in the community. Local radio has reported that that a photo of the “Mothman” exists, although no further details have been provided.

Alright , me and my 2 best friends josh and alex , wanted to go on an awesome journey , so we went on the neighborhood golf course , and keep in mind we live in georgia , and the woods are heavely dense, so we are walking, and we saw some foxes , on the side wood, so we were cautious and we then started walking in the middle of the golf course, we walked slowly, after that we kept walking for at least 20 to 30 ft.  josh then stopped and whispered stop! he gestured to his right and notified us of a deer in the side of the woods.  He then turned his flashlight off and told us to crouch down and stay still.
